Price 2011 Conference was enjoyable for so many reasons&#8211;seeing friends, meeting new ones, learning about health and nutrition&#8211;but, since attending my first conference,\u00a0one of the most\u00a0fun reasons to attend\u00a0is\u00a0to eat the delicious <em>and<\/em> oh so healthy food at every meal.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/realfoodhouston.com\/wp-files\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/Bkfst_bowl_yogurt.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-1184\" title=\"Breakfast bowl of yogurt\" src=\"http:\/\/realfoodhouston.com\/wp-files\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/Bkfst_bowl_yogurt-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Breakfast bowl of yogurt and blueberries\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>Every morning we started the day with\u00a0a breakfast fundraiser for the Farm-to-Consumer Legal Defense Fund. [If you&#8217;re not a member, go <a href=\"http:\/\/www.farmtoconsumer.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a> and join!\u00a0 Help raw milk dairy farmers and other family farms survive the FDA.]\u00a0 Basically\u00a0everyday\u00a0 there was soaked organic oatmeal and organic grass-fed Greek yogurt.\u00a0 There were lots of fixins&#8211;fresh blueberries, raisons, crispy oatmeal, butter, milk &amp; cream, maple syrup and raw honey.\u00a0 Of course, I had to try both&#8211;oatmeal Friday and Saturday, yogurt Sunday morning&#8211;and cleaned my bowl every morning.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/realfoodhouston.com\/wp-files\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/Bkfst_eggs_cin_rolls3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-1203\" title=\"Breakfast eggs and cinnamon rolls\" src=\"http:\/\/realfoodhouston.com\/wp-files\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/Bkfst_eggs_cin_rolls3-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Breakfast eggs and cinnamon rolls\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>My favorite fixin was the blueberries, but when I had oatmeal I also added a big chunk of butter and lots of half and half. Also in the photo is the hearty and flavorful [yes, he let me taste it] organ meat\u00a0ragout my husband had with a sprouted flour\u00a0 biscuit loaded with butter.\u00a0 The cup is my ooom good chicken bone broth.\u00a0There were many other choices as well, including sprouted flour cinnamon rolls, fresh fruit, drinkable yogurt, warm boiled pastured eggs,\u00a0beef bone broth along with the chicken, and a selection of fresh fruit.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Friday&#8217;s lunch buffet had Texas style chili with shredded cheddar cheese, diced onions, and tortilla stips fried in lard.\u00a0 The main dish was coconut wraps to fill with pulled chicken, cheese, sour cream, guacamole, lettuce, and salsa.\u00a0 The Friday dinner had beef and pork sausages, marinated slow cooked pulled pork, baked beans, and potato chips fried in lard.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/realfoodhouston.com\/wp-files\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/Sat_dinner_sablefish1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-1205\" title=\"Sablefish appetizer\" src=\"http:\/\/realfoodhouston.com\/wp-files\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/Sat_dinner_sablefish1-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Sablefish appetizer\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>The Saturday awards banquet (which was not a buffet) began with smoked sablefish with capers and dilled sour cream. [The sour cream was delicious but it seemed difficult to get the wait staff to serve more than a tablespoonful for our whole table.]<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/realfoodhouston.com\/wp-files\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/Sat_dinner_pot_roast1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-1206\" title=\"Saturday dinner pot roast and vegetables\" src=\"http:\/\/realfoodhouston.com\/wp-files\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/Sat_dinner_pot_roast1-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Saturday dinner pot roast and vegetables\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>The delicious appetizer was followed by pot roast, roasted root vegetables and winter squash.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>To help our digestion, each meal included some fermented vegetables or fruits, such as\u00a0garlic sauerkraut, apple butter, honey mustard, and fermented salsa.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/realfoodhouston.com\/wp-files\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/Sun_plate.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-1208\" title=\"Sunday brunch\" src=\"http:\/\/realfoodhouston.com\/wp-files\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/Sun_plate-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Sunday brunch\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>Sunday brunch featured a beautiful array of cheeses, ham, breakfast sausage, egg casserole, and sourdough French toast with butter, maple syrup, and fermented apple butter.\u00a0\u00a0 The glass is full of kombucha.<\/p>\n<p>Desserts were also delicious, mostly fruit such as baked apples and pears, but, at several meals,\u00a0we\u00a0had the traditional WAPF conference cheesecake with date and nut crust&#8211;yummy!\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>We all really missed one food&#8211;raw milk.\u00a0 Raw milk couldn&#8217;t be served at the Dallas conference because\u00a0the Texas raw milk delivery bill was defeated last summer by the Texas Medical Association, Big Dairy, and the Harris\u00a0 County Health Department.
