{"id":4721,"date":"2013-07-10T16:40:43","date_gmt":"2013-07-10T21:40:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/realfoodhouston.com\/?p=4721"},"modified":"2015-11-06T13:40:58","modified_gmt":"2015-11-06T19:40:58","slug":"fresh-fig-smoothie","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.realfoodhouston.com\/wp-files\/2013\/07\/10\/fresh-fig-smoothie\/","title":{"rendered":"Fresh Fig Smoothie"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/realfoodhouston.com\/wp-files\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/Figgy-Smoothie.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-4723\" src=\"http:\/\/realfoodhouston.com\/wp-files\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/Figgy-Smoothie-281x300.jpg\" alt=\"Fig Smoothie\" width=\"281\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a>Figs are definitely in season here in Houston, TX, and I love their sweet juiciness.\u00a0 My local farmers market had 4 or 5 varieties of ripe figs last weekend.\u00a0 And today&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.houstonchronicle.com\/life\/food\/article\/Figs-figuring-into-best-of-season-4655639.php\" target=\"_blank\">feature<\/a> in the food section of the Houston Chronicle is all about local figs.<\/p>\n<p>You all already know I love my morning smoothies, and, although I have my favorites, I like to try other flavors and other fruits.\u00a0 Since there is an abundance of fresh figs right now, I thought I would try a fig variation of my morning smoothie.\u00a0 Well, it was a delicious success!\u00a0 Figs and smoothies do go very well together.<\/p>\n<p>The figs I bought at last weekend&#8217;s farmers market are all gone now, but, if I&#8217;m lucky there will be some more this coming weekend.\u00a0 I&#8217;m hoping!<\/p>\n<p>If you can find some fresh ripe figs, I recommend using some of them in a smoothie.\u00a0 Figs are also super good just rinsed and popped in the mouth&#8211;my favorite way to eat fresh figs.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fresh Fig Smoothie<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>1\/2 to 2\/3 cup raw cow milk kefir (I make my own kefir with <a href=\"http:\/\/realfoodhouston.com\/2012\/01\/02\/milk-is-plentiful-at-healthy-way-dairy\/\">Healthyway Dairy<\/a> milk)<br \/>\n4 to 6 fresh figs, depending on size (local farmers market)<br \/>\n1 tablespoon coconut oil (I use Tropical Traditions)<br \/>\n2 egg yolks from pastured chickens (local)<br \/>\nstevia to taste (I use SweetLeaf)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/realfoodhouston.com\/wp-files\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/Fresh-figs.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-4724\" src=\"http:\/\/realfoodhouston.com\/wp-files\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/Fresh-figs-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Fresh figs\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>Combine all ingredients in a blender.
