In 2011 that number rose to 2.5%&#8211;more than double, but still dwarfed by the 48% who reported eating meat, fish or poultry at all of their meals. In this country, most of us are blessed with an abundance of food and food choices. So taking into account our health, the environment and ethical concerns, which diet is best? Are we or aren&#8217;t we meant to be carnivores?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Those debating FOR the premise are Dr. Neal Barnard and Gene Baur.\u00a0 Those AGAINST are\u00a0Dr. Chris Masterjohn and Joel Salatin.<\/p>\n<p>I am familiar with Chris Masterjohn and Joel Salatin.\u00a0 They are well-known to members of the <a href=\"http:\/\/westonaprice.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Weston A. Price Foundation<\/a>; however, since not everyone may know about Chris and Joel, I&#8217;ve included a brief introduction to them as well as to the debaters FOR the topic.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cholesterol-and-health.com\/about-cholesterol-and-health.html\" target=\"_blank\">Chris Masterjohn<\/a>, author of the blogs <em><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.cholesterol-and-health.com\/\">The Daily Lipid<\/a><\/em> and <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cholesterol-and-health.com\/\">Cholesterol-and-health<\/a><\/em>, is an advocate of the necessity of eating animal fats and is currently a researcher studying the interactions between vitamins A, D, and K.\u00a0 He is a strong supporter of humane treatment of farm animals and sustainable farming practices.\u00a0 He followed veganism for several years with serious health consequences.\u00a0 He was brought back to health after reading Nutrition and Physical Degeneration and changing to a diet based on the research of Dr. Weston A. Price.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cholesterol-and-health.com\/Vegetarianism.html\">Read his story. . .<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Joel_Salatin\" target=\"_blank\">Joel Salatin<\/a> is a full-time, third-generation farmer at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.polyfacefarms.com\/speaking-protocol\/joels-bio\/\">Polyface Farm<\/a> in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia.\u00a0 He \u201cpassionately defends small farms, local food systems, and the right to opt out of the conventional food paradigm.\u201d\u00a0 He is the author of several books, including how-tos on various aspects of farming.\u00a0 One of his latest books is <i>Folks, This Ain\u2019t Normal: A Farmer\u2019s Advice for Happier Hens, Healthier People, and a Better World<\/i>.\u00a0\u00a0 He is featured in the movie <a href=\"http:\/\/www.freshthemovie.com\/\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Fresh<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Neal_D._Barnard\" target=\"_blank\">Neal Barnard<\/a> is the founding president of the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Physicians_Committee_for_Responsible_Medicine\">Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine<\/a> (PCRM). He advocates a low-fat, whole foods, plant-based diet, and his organization, PCRM, promotes a vegan diet.\u00a0 T. Colin Campbell, author of <em><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_China_Study\" target=\"_blank\">The China Study<\/a><\/em>, is on the PCRM advisory board.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Gene_Baur\" target=\"_blank\">Gene Baur<\/a>, is the co-founder and president of <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Farm_Sanctuary\">Farm Sanctuary<\/a>, a rescue organization dedicated to farmed animals.\u00a0 Farm Sanctuary promotes animal welfare, animal protection, and vegetarianism\/veganism.\u00a0 Baur investigates factory farming and is an advocate for animal protection and was featured in the documentary <em><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Forks_Over_Knives\">Forks Over Knives<\/a><\/em>, a documentary promoting whole foods veganism.<\/p>\n<p>The debate is scheduled for 6:45 pm, which is probably Eastern Standard Time since the live debate will be at the Kaufman Center in New York.<\/p>\n<p>According to the announcement by the Weston A.
