The co-hosts for the demo are Amy Robison and Ali Miller.\u00a0 The demo will begin at Noon, Saturday, July 26th.\u00a0 There is no charge to attend this event.\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/events\/746167482093837\/permalink\/747832868593965\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-cke-saved-href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/events\/746167482093837\/permalink\/747832868593965\/\">Read more . . .<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>The annual Houston Restaurant Weeks is coming up soon.\u00a0 The 2014 Weeks will begin August 1 and run through September 1.\u00a0 Local restaurants will feature special prix fixe meals with a portion of the price going to benefit the Houston Food Bank.\u00a0 To find out which restaurants are participating go to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.houstonrestaurantweeks.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-cke-saved-href=\"http:\/\/www.houstonrestaurantweeks.com\/\">HoustonRestaurantWeeks.com<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>The trend to use local produce is a wonderful change that we should encourage.\u00a0 At least <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.houstonpress.com\/eating\/2014\/04\/the_not-so-secret_garden_six_h.php\" target=\"_blank\" data-cke-saved-href=\"http:\/\/blogs.houstonpress.com\/eating\/2014\/04\/the_not-so-secret_garden_six_h.php\">six Houston restaurants<\/a> are now growing at least some of the food they serve.\u00a0 If you visit any of these restaurants tell them how much you like what they are doing.\u00a0 They are Coltivare, Haven, The Grove, Osteria Mazzantini, Patrenella&#8217;s Italian Restaurant, Rainbow Lodge, and Zelko Bistro.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Do you really want to eat meat preserved this way?\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.infectioncontroltoday.com\/news\/2014\/05\/antimicrobial-edible-films-inhibit-pathogens-in-meat.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" data-cke-saved-href=\"http:\/\/www.infectioncontroltoday.com\/news\/2014\/05\/antimicrobial-edible-films-inhibit-pathogens-in-meat.aspx\">Researchers<\/a> (notice they are NOT cooks) have developed a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.business-standard.com\/article\/pti-stories\/new-edible-film-kills-bacteria-in-meat-114050500562_1.html\" target=\"_blank\" data-cke-saved-href=\"http:\/\/www.business-standard.com\/article\/pti-stories\/new-edible-film-kills-bacteria-in-meat-114050500562_1.html\">new dissolving film<\/a> to coat meat and protect it from spoilage.\u00a0 The film is made of &#8220;pullulan &#8211; an edible, mostly tasteless, transparent polymer produced by the fungus reobasidium pulluns.&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>This is sad news!\u00a0 A pesticide in the neonicotinoid family that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.latimes.com\/science\/sciencenow\/la-sci-sn-pesticide-bee-bird-20140709-story.html\" target=\"_blank\" data-cke-saved-href=\"http:\/\/www.latimes.com\/science\/sciencenow\/la-sci-sn-pesticide-bee-bird-20140709-story.html\">has been linked<\/a> to bee colony collapse is now being blamed for a decline in bird populations.\u00a0 The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nature.com\/nature\/journal\/v511\/n7509\/full\/nature13531.html\" target=\"_blank\" data-cke-saved-href=\"http:\/\/www.nature.com\/nature\/journal\/v511\/n7509\/full\/nature13531.html\">study<\/a> published in the journal Nature found a correlation between pesticide concentrations in surface water and decreases in 14 bird species.\u00a0 How much beauty would the world lose if the birds and butterflies disappeared?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Oh wow! There is such a lot of bad news about statins. It&#8217;s overwhelming.\u00a0 When there are so few people who could be helped by taking statins, it is disturbing to learn of even more adverse side effects.\u00a0 Why oh why do so many people who don&#8217;t need them take statins? Here are some of the latest findings:\n<ul>\n<li>In what I think may be the most alarming <a href=\"http:\/\/www.greenmedinfo.com\/blog\/do-cholesterol-drugs-have-men-their-gonads\" target=\"_blank\" data-cke-saved-href=\"http:\/\/www.greenmedinfo.com\/blog\/do-cholesterol-drugs-have-men-their-gonads\">study<\/a>, it was found that statins &#8220;may be causing significant and lasting damage to men&#8217;s testicles and sperm, and by implication, possibly the health of future generations.&#8221;\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/healthydietsandscience.blogspot.com\/2014\/07\/statins-significantly-increase-sperm.html\" target=\"_blank\" data-cke-saved-href=\"http:\/\/healthydietsandscience.blogspot.com\/2014\/07\/statins-significantly-increase-sperm.html\">Link to study<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Another <a href=\"http:\/\/cheba.unsw.edu.au\/project\/sydney-memory-and-ageing-study\" target=\"_blank\" data-cke-saved-href=\"http:\/\/cheba.unsw.edu.au\/project\/sydney-memory-and-ageing-study\">study<\/a> found that statin use is particularly <a href=\"http:\/\/www.clinicalendocrinologynews.com\/single-article\/statin-use-linked-to-memory-decline-in-elderly\/7100f1a1d5f6a105688bf9b32b7bf8bd.html\" target=\"_blank\" data-cke-saved-href=\"http:\/\/www.clinicalendocrinologynews.com\/single-article\/statin-use-linked-to-memory-decline-in-elderly\/7100f1a1d5f6a105688bf9b32b7bf8bd.html\">damaging to older people<\/a> in the 70-90 age range.\u00a0 the study has found a significantly greater decline in memory in those who take statins.<\/li>\n<li>And a <a href=\"http:\/\/healthydietsandscience.blogspot.com\/2014\/07\/the-risk-of-diabetes-rises-as-adherence.html\" target=\"_blank\" data-cke-saved-href=\"http:\/\/healthydietsandscience.blogspot.com\/2014\/07\/the-risk-of-diabetes-rises-as-adherence.html\">third large study<\/a> shows that those who had high adherence to taking statins were more likely to get diabetes.<\/li>\n<li>And still <a href=\"http:\/\/healthydietsandscience.blogspot.com\/2014\/06\/statin-users-have-13-increased.html\" target=\"_blank\" data-cke-saved-href=\"http:\/\/healthydietsandscience.blogspot.com\/2014\/06\/statin-users-have-13-increased.html\">another study<\/a> found that statin users are 13% more likely to contract common infections.<\/li>\n<li>Here&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/healthydietsandscience.blogspot.com\/2014\/06\/statin-use-increases-risk-of.html\" target=\"_blank\" data-cke-saved-href=\"http:\/\/healthydietsandscience.blogspot.com\/2014\/06\/statin-use-increases-risk-of.html\">another one<\/a>&#8211;statin use is found to increase the risk of osteoarthritis and joint pain by 26%.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Dallas might just <a href=\"http:\/\/articles.mercola.com\/sites\/articles\/archive\/2014\/07\/01\/water-supply-fluoridation.aspx?x_cid=20140715_ranart_facebookdoc\" target=\"_blank\" data-cke-saved-href=\"http:\/\/articles.mercola.com\/sites\/articles\/archive\/2014\/07\/01\/water-supply-fluoridation.aspx?x_cid=20140715_ranart_facebookdoc\">stop adding fluoride to their water supply<\/a>.\u00a0 If so, it would be the largest city to remove this toxic industrial waste (usually sourced as a by-product of Chinese aluminum production) from their municipal water.\u00a0 Apparently Dallas already has a fairly high natural fluoride content in their water at .5 ppm.\u00a0 Adding more fluoride probably increases the incidence of <a href=\"http:\/\/realfoodhouston.com\/2011\/12\/27\/how-much-fluoride-is-too-much-fluoride-who-really-benefits\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-cke-saved-href=\"http:\/\/realfoodhouston.com\/2011\/12\/27\/how-much-fluoride-is-too-much-fluoride-who-really-benefits\/\">fluorosis<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Does wearing a bra cause breast cancer? There is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.greenmedinfo.com\/blog\/ladies-ditch-bra-1\" target=\"_blank\" data-cke-saved-href=\"http:\/\/www.greenmedinfo.com\/blog\/ladies-ditch-bra-1\">some evidence<\/a> that wearing a tight-fitting bra may be harmful to health. In any case, it&#8217;s on the safe side to avoid wearing one as much as possible. I&#8217;ve stopped wearing one and wow, it&#8217;s sooo much more comfortable.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>It helps to have nutrition researchers do a step-by-step debunking of common nutrition myths.\u00a0 This week we have two knowledgeable sources with their top choices for nutrition information.\u00a0 <em>Authority Nutrition<\/em> has compiled <a href=\"http:\/\/authoritynutrition.com\/15-things-everyone-needs-to-know-about-nutrition\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-cke-saved-href=\"http:\/\/authoritynutrition.com\/15-things-everyone-needs-to-know-about-nutrition\/\">15 Things That Everyone Needs to Know About Nutrition<\/a>.\u00a0 I especially like # 2, Everywhere The Western Diet Goes, Diseases Follow.\u00a0 That echoes the research of Dr. Weston A. Price, whom he credits.\u00a0 <em>Dr. Mercola<\/em> also has a great article about the <a href=\"http:\/\/articles.mercola.com\/sites\/articles\/archive\/2014\/07\/16\/top10-nutritional-myths.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" data-cke-saved-href=\"http:\/\/articles.mercola.com\/sites\/articles\/archive\/2014\/07\/16\/top10-nutritional-myths.aspx\">Top 10 Destructive Nutrition Lies Ever Told<\/a>.\u00a0 Although I&#8217;m not sure I agree 100% with all of them (probably not with # 1), I do totally like the rest, including his # 2 nutrition lie&#8211;Saturated Fat Causes Heart Disease.\u00a0 Check out this &#8220;Honest Coca Cola Obesity Commercial&#8221; video that Dr. Mercola featured.\u00a0 Real commercials are <em>never<\/em> this honest, but we might wish they were!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/bHhCP5ad-zM\" width=\"490\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h3><em><strong>Not all news is bad!
