{"id":626,"date":"2011-07-29T13:04:45","date_gmt":"2011-07-29T18:04:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/realfoodhouston.com\/?p=626"},"modified":"2014-07-24T09:32:22","modified_gmt":"2014-07-24T14:32:22","slug":"analysis-shows-no-association-of-saturated-fat-with-cardiovascular-disease","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.realfoodhouston.com\/wp-files\/2011\/07\/29\/analysis-shows-no-association-of-saturated-fat-with-cardiovascular-disease\/","title":{"rendered":"Analysis Shows No Association of Saturated Fat With Cardiovascular Disease"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In The Washington Post online, I found a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/blogs\/the-checkup\/post\/rethinking-saturated-fat\/2010\/12\/20\/gIQA7hdXdI_blog.html\" target=\"_blank\">reference<\/a>\u00a0to an <a title=\"Meta-analysis of prospective cohort studies evaluating the association of saturated fat with cardiovascular disease\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ajcn.org\/content\/91\/3\/535.full\" target=\"_blank\">analysis<\/a> published last year\u00a0in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.\u00a0 The objective of the\u00a0meta-analysis\u00a0 was &#8220;to summarize the evidence related to the association of dietary saturated fat with risk of coronary heart disease (CHD), stroke, and cardiovascular disease (CVD; CHD inclusive of stroke) in prospective epidemiologic studies.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Twenty-one studies were identified and analyzed.\u00a0 The conclusions stated that &#8220;there is no significant evidence for concluding that dietary saturated fat is associated with an increased risk of CHD or CVD. &#8221;<\/p>\n<p>As I have mentioned in a previous <a href=\"http:\/\/realfoodhouston.com\/2011\/04\/15\/everyone-knows-really\/\">post about low-fat diets<\/a>, too many &#8220;health experts,&#8221; doctors, and government agencies say that &#8220;Everyone knows that . . .&#8221; when referring to saturated fats, low-fat diets, and other related topics.\u00a0 The &#8220;fat police&#8221; have been demonizing butter, animal fats, coconut oil, and even egg yolks for many years, always claiming it&#8217;s for our health.\u00a0 Apparently even the &#8220;establishment&#8221; is beginning to realize that the science behind the fat scare is limited, at best.\u00a0 The Washington Post article called the meta-analysis a &#8220;major piece of research.&#8221;\u00a0 How many more &#8220;experts&#8221; will we hear say &#8220;everyone knows,&#8221; or the equivalent, before they learn that &#8220;everyone&#8221; does not know and that they are WRONG?<\/p>\n<p><em>More posts on the topic of saturated fats: <\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>August 29, 2011<\/em>,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/lewrockwell.com\/miller\/miller38.1.html\" target=\"_blank\">Enjoy Saturated Fats, They&#8217;re Good For You!<\/a>\u00a0by\u00a0Donald W.
