{"id":878,"date":"2011-09-09T12:17:26","date_gmt":"2011-09-09T17:17:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/realfoodhouston.com\/?p=878"},"modified":"2011-09-09T12:17:26","modified_gmt":"2011-09-09T17:17:26","slug":"quick-and-easy-salad-dressings-healthy-too","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.realfoodhouston.com\/wp-files\/2011\/09\/09\/quick-and-easy-salad-dressings-healthy-too\/","title":{"rendered":"Quick and Easy Salad Dressings&#8211;Healthy Too!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><strong>Blue cheese dressing<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>I like blue cheese salad dressing but have been avoiding it because almost all commercial brands use soy oil as the base for salad dressings, including mayonnaise.\u00a0 Someone recommended using raw sour cream as a salad dressing, which worked very well, and then it occurred to me to add some blue cheese to the sour cream.\u00a0 Yes, it is a great salad dressing, and I no longer need worry about the soy oil.\u00a0 It&#8217;s also very quick and easy to prepare.\u00a0 Here&#8217;s the simple recipe:\u00a0 combine\u00a0one tablespoon of raw sour cream and one tablespoon of organic blue cheese crumbles.\u00a0 Add sea salt and pepper to taste,\u00a0mix lightly, and it&#8217;s ready to use.\u00a0 This amount\u00a0is one serving, for more servings just increase the amounts of sour cream and blue cheese&#8211;one for one.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Bragg&#8217;s Hawaiian dressing<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>For a very different flavor, here&#8217;s another easy and oh-so-good salad dressing using\u00a0Bragg&#8217;s organic Hawaiian dressing and marinade.\u00a0 Again, the proportions I use\u00a0are one-for-one,\u00a0one tablespoon Bragg&#8217;s Hawaiian dressing to one tablespoon organic extra virgin olive oil, plus sea salt and pepper to taste.\u00a0 This makes one serving.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Basic vinaigrette<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>To make a basic vinaigrette, combine organic extra virgin olive oil and Bragg&#8217;s organic raw apple cider vinegar in three to one proportions, for example, three tablespoons olive oil to one tablespoon vinegar.\u00a0 Add sea salt and pepper to taste.\u00a0For one serving, dip a fork into a jar of organic prepared mustard or dijon mustard, then use the mustard fork to beat the olive oil\/vinegar mixture.\u00a0 Use more mustard if making more than one serving.\u00a0 The proportion of olive oil to vinegar and amount of mustard\u00a0may be changed to suit your taste.\u00a0\u00a0 For a milder dressing, freshly squeezed lemon juice may be substituted for the vinegar.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Thousand Island Dressing<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Combine two tablespoons homemade mayonnaise,\u00a0one teaspoon unsweetened ketchup,\u00a0dash of sea salt,\u00a01\/4 teaspoon organic sweet pickle relish (this is optional and yes, it has some sugar, but\u00a0this is a small amount).\u00a0 If you have some handy, add a dash of freshly squeezed lemon juice.\u00a0 This makes one serving.\u00a0 Chopped boiled egg may be added for additional flavor and nutrition.<\/p>\n<p>Each\u00a0of these dressings can be made in a minute or two,\u00a0are delicious, and contain only healthy, nutritious ingredients.\u00a0 Pour dressings over whatever salad mix or local farmers&#8217;
