Then, last week, just by accident, I actually visited the Wabash store on Washington Avenue when my daughter and I went to eat lunch at the <a title=\"Bare Bowls Kitchen\" href=\"http:\/\/www.barebowlskitchen.com\/bbk.html\" target=\"_blank\">Bare Bowls Kitchen<\/a> food truck. Every Sunday, the food truck is parked in front of the Wabash as part of the Urban Pickins Farmer&#8217;s Market. So after we enjoyed our bowls, we wandered through the Wabash store and visited the vendors at the farmers market.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/realfoodhouston.com\/wp-files\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/Coyote-Creek-chicken-feed.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-2246\" title=\"Coyote Creek chicken feed\" src=\"http:\/\/realfoodhouston.com\/wp-files\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/Coyote-Creek-chicken-feed-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Coyote Creek chicken feed\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/> <\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/realfoodhouston.com\/wp-files\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/vegetable-seedlings.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-2247\" title=\"vegetable seedlings\" src=\"http:\/\/realfoodhouston.com\/wp-files\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/vegetable-seedlings-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"vegetable seedlings\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/realfoodhouston.com\/wp-files\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/antiques.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-2249\" title=\"antiques\" src=\"http:\/\/realfoodhouston.com\/wp-files\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/antiques-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"antiques\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nThe Wabash store has been around Houston in one form or another for over one hundred years.\u00a0\u00a0It was named &#8216;Wabash&#8217;\u00a0by the owner in the 1970&#8217;s, Manning Mann, and stands for Washington Avenue Bric-Brac, Antiques, Sundries and Hardware.\u00a0 It&#8217;s still\u00a0locally owned and operated, and it\u00a0still has a wide variety of things for sale&#8211;not just feed, organic gardening supplies,\u00a0and antiques&#8211;but also\u00a0hardware, livestock,\u00a0pets, and even beer.\u00a0\u00a0Their motto is &#8220;A little bit of country in the heart of the city.&#8221;\u00a0 It certainly has that old fashioned feel about it.\u00a0 Wandering through the store, discovering all the interesting products, was somewhat\u00a0like walking through a maze.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/realfoodhouston.com\/wp-files\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/ducklings.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-2250\" title=\"ducklings\" src=\"http:\/\/realfoodhouston.com\/wp-files\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/ducklings-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"ducklings\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/realfoodhouston.com\/wp-files\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/chickens.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-2251\" title=\"chickens\" src=\"http:\/\/realfoodhouston.com\/wp-files\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/chickens-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"chickens\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/realfoodhouston.com\/wp-files\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/rabbit.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-2252\" title=\"rabbit\" src=\"http:\/\/realfoodhouston.com\/wp-files\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/rabbit-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"rabbit\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>They have a wide selection of livestock, including chickens, ducks, rabbits, and\u00a0dove.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/realfoodhouston.com\/wp-files\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/fruit-trees.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-2255\" title=\"fruit trees\" src=\"http:\/\/realfoodhouston.com\/wp-files\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/fruit-trees-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"fruit trees\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/realfoodhouston.com\/wp-files\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/wall-of-seeds.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-2256\" title=\"wall of seeds\" src=\"http:\/\/realfoodhouston.com\/wp-files\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/wall-of-seeds-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"wall of seeds\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/realfoodhouston.com\/wp-files\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/strawberries.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-2257\" title=\"strawberry plants\" src=\"http:\/\/realfoodhouston.com\/wp-files\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/strawberries-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"strawberry plants\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Whether you want seeds or seedlings, they&#8217;ve got them, both fruits and vegetables.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I first learned of the Wabash Antiques &amp; Feed Store last year when looking for a local Houston supplier of Coyote Creek organic feed.
