Real Food Houston Posted on February 20, 2012 by Carolyn BiggerstaffFebruary 20, 2012

A study has found evidence that the Bt toxins like those in genetically engineered (GE) maize (corn) can damage human cells.  Although the study used high concentrations of the toxin, biotech companies like Monsanto have always insisted that the GE toxins “are supposed … Continue reading →

According to breaking news from GM Freeze, Monsanto has asked the European Union to increase the permitted amount of its most widely used herbicide glyphosate in lentils.  The amount of increase Monsanto wants is 100-150 times the current legal limit. Real Food Houston Posted on January 24, 2012 by Carolyn BiggerstaffAugust 3, 2014

Monsanto shareholders rejected a concerned shareholder’s proposal and upheld management viewpoint, as expected–after all, they did own shares in Monsanto–at the 2012 annual shareholders meeting held today at Monsanto Headquarters in St. Louis, MO.  A shareholder representing Harrington Investments had submitted a proposal to create a … Continue reading →

Real Food Houston Posted on January 13, 2012 by Carolyn BiggerstaffJuly 27, 2014

Have you heard of glyphosate?   Glyphosate is an herbicide that kills plants, almost all plants. But if you haven’t heard of glyphosate, you have probably heard of Roundup and have seen the clever TV commercials showing weeds wilting and dying–touted as the perfect solution … Continue reading →

Real Food Houston Posted on December 7, 2011 by Carolyn BiggerstaffMay 19, 2014

I love butterflies, although I’ve always thought they should be called flutterbys. I photographed this monarch butterfly feeding on milkweed in our backyard garden. It is glorious and flies in a  marvelously floating way that supports its name monarch. It may be the most popular and best … Continue reading →

Real Food Houston Posted on December 2, 2011 by Carolyn BiggerstaffJanuary 12, 2012

For twenty years biotech companies have been promising higher crop yields and lower costs if farmers would plant their genetically modified (GMO) seeds; however, studies are showing that GMO crops don’t produce higher yields and lowered costs.  Monsanto has already admitted that in India … Continue reading →

Howard Vlieger and I talked during the Weston A. Price Wise Traditions conference in Dallas, Texas, November 11-14.  Why did I want to talk with Howard and write about GMOs (genetically modified organisms, also described as genetically engineered)?
