Real Food Houston Posted on January 26, 2012 by Carolyn BiggerstaffJuly 12, 2014

Helena Bottemiller of The Food and Environment Reporting Network says “few Americans outside of the livestock industry have ever heard of ractopamine.”  Well, I certainly had never heard of ractopamine before reading her article today.  Apparently it’s a drug fed to pigs right up … Continue reading →

Monsanto shareholders rejected a concerned shareholder’s proposal and upheld management viewpoint, as expected–after all, they did own shares in Monsanto–at the 2012 annual shareholders meeting held today at Monsanto Headquarters in St. Louis, MO.  A shareholder representing Harrington Investments had submitted a proposal to create a … Continue reading →

How Much Fluoride is Too Much Fluoride: Who Really Benefits?

Real Food Houston Posted on December 27, 2011 by Carolyn BiggerstaffDecember 27, 2011

There is widespread debate about how much fluoride is safe to consume and whether municipal water systems should be fluoridated.  I noticed recently that Sri Lanka marked National Water Safety Week by providing water filters to more than 400 families who were consuming water with too much … Continue reading →

Real Food Houston Posted on December 2, 2011 by Carolyn BiggerstaffJanuary 12, 2012

For twenty years biotech companies have been promising higher crop yields and lower costs if farmers would plant their genetically modified (GMO) seeds; however, studies are showing that GMO crops don’t produce higher yields and lowered costs.  Monsanto has already admitted that in India … Continue reading →

It’s Not Pretty Behind the Biotech Veil, an Interview with Howard Vlieger

Real Food Houston Posted on November 22, 2011 by Carolyn BiggerstaffAugust 5, 2014

Howard Vlieger and I talked during the Weston A. Price Wise Traditions conference in Dallas, Texas, November 11-14.  Why did I want to talk with Howard and write about GMOs (genetically modified organisms, also described as genetically engineered)? What Does Genetically Engineered (or GMO) Mean?

Real Food Houston Posted on October 12, 2011 by Carolyn BiggerstaffOctober 12, 2011

After my last post on GMO labeling, I was asked “What are GMOs?”  Most people don’t really know much about it, and they certainly don’t know how extensively these organisms have already affected our food supply.  To help avoid possible confusion, in this post … Continue reading →
